Time Calculator (v1 & v2) Help

Help (Tips &
Tricks)
- Use
the TAB key to hop sequentially from one button or textbox to the next.
- Use
the 'Pass Value' button to perform equation-like calculations. It sends the
value to the top automatically so you don't need to 'clear' and re-enter it.
- The
'Fraction Converter' supports FRACTIONAL time values of up to 8 decimal
places for precision conversion from hours or minutes into WHOLE hours,
minutes and seconds; e.g. 5.4434 Hours = 5 hours, 26 minutes and 36.24
seconds! With
the 'Fraction Creator', you can do just the opposite. Enter WHOLE values in
hours and minutes and even fractional values in seconds to convert them to
precise, fractional values in hours, minutes OR seconds.
- To
convert say a large number of seconds into appropriate hours, minutes and
(remaining) seconds, simply enter the large number in the 'seconds' column of
the main calculator and 'add' nothing to it. Press 'calculate' and you have
your answer.
- You
can enter new time values (by replacing the old ones) in each textbox even
without pressing the 'Clear' button. This is useful if you only want to
change a part of the calculation and not all of it.
- The
main calculator panel is actually intended for pure time values only and not
a particular time of day (e.g. AM or PM). However, if you must perform such
a calculation, it can be used in conjunction with the, 'Standard/Military'
time converter. For example if you want to know how much time has elapsed
between
4.15 pm
and
11.20 am
, you simply convert the values to military time. Then you would enter the
values into the main calculator (e.g. 16 hours 15 minutes) and subtract 11
hours 20 minutes from that.
-
Negative results are not permitted. If you subtract a larger value from a
smaller one, a message box will inform you of the error.
- Select
Options>Hide Fraction Section to close that area if you're not using it
at the moment. This will save some desktop space.
- There
are tooltips (little yellow boxes with text explanations) to help you that
appear whenever you leave your mouse pointer on virtually any part of the
program. Try it now; leave your mouse pointer on the 'Pass Value' button to
learn what it does.
-
Entering characters in places you should enter numbers won't result in a
system crash. Characters register as '0' (not counted) by default.
- You
can come back to this site automatically by selecting Help>Visit Website
if you want to look for updates, purchase another copy of the program or
review this help page.
- Send
us feedback automatically from Help>About by clicking my e-mail address
once. Your default e-mail program will start with the subject and address
ready for you.
- Click
the 'System Information' button in the Help>About box to get detailed
information about your operating system.
Troubleshooting
- If
you face problems running the program in that you are asked for certain DLL
files, this means you probably don't have the Visual Basic Run-time files
installed in your computer. Windows 98 SE and above usually come preloaded
with them. Any one of the methods below should solve this problem.
-
Use the installation package instead of just the EXE file.
- Install the VB
run-time files.
-
Download just the DLL(s) you need from somewhere and copy it into the
proper location (e.g. c:\windows\system32). However you might need to
register the DLL before it will work by going to Start>Run and typing
"regsvr32 c:\Windows\System32\yourfile.dll" (without the "
")
- Be sure to have AT LEAST created a System Restore point for your computer
(or backed up your files if you don't use XP) before doing any of this and
you should equip yourself with some knowledge (or consult someone who knows)
about DLL installations before doing anything.
