Time Calculator Deluxe Edition Help Documentation

Getting Started

  1. Time Calculator Deluxe Edition is very easy to use. However, before you begin work, it would be good to decide what method of input you prefer.
  2. By default, Hide Fraction Section and Keypad Binding under the Options menu are unchecked.
  3. If you are not going to work with the fraction section often, it is recommended you hide it so that tab indexing (pressing the TAB key to move from button to button) doesn’t automatically shift to that section during use. Tab indexing is set up so the text boxes and functions are accessible in sequence and in the most common order.
  4. Second is Keypad Binding. The software has two modes of entering values. If you enable keypad binding, that means you will be able to use the +, -, /, x, Enter operators on your numerical keypad with the program. ‘Enter’ defaults to the ‘calculate’ or ‘=’ button. This is useful for those who perform a lot of calculations quickly. In this mode, the ESC key also erases all values. However, memory and swap functions still require the use of the mouse pointer or spacebar once it is in focus by using the TAB key. Make sure you have ‘numerical lock’ enabled.

  1. If keypad binding is not enabled (unchecked), then you will need to use your mouse pointer. Pressing the ENTER key in this mode activates whatever button (e.g. +, -, X, /) you have in focus at the moment.
  2. A summary is provided in the following table.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Use the Pass Value button to perform more complex calculations. It sends the value to the top automatically so you don't need to 'clear' and re-enter it.
  2. M+ stores results into memory while MR1 and MR2 recall what's in memory to either the first line or the next. Use this creatively to save time entering values.
  3. The SW function can be used to swap between lines 1 and 2 if you have subtracted a larger value from a smaller one. By default, it comes into focus if you try to perform a calculation that yields a negative value.
  4. The Fraction Section supports FRACTIONAL time values of up to 10 decimal places for precision conversion from days, hours, minutes or seconds into WHOLE days, hours, minutes and seconds; e.g. 5.4434 Hours = 5 hours, 26 minutes and 36.24 seconds. You can also enter WHOLE values in days, hours, minutes and seconds to convert them to precise, fractional values in days, hours, minutes OR seconds. The 'fraction' and 'whole' sides are seamlessly integrated for easy left to right and vice-versa conversion.
  5. The main calculator panel is actually intended for pure time values only and not a particular time of day (e.g. AM or PM). However, if you must perform such a calculation, it can be used in conjunction with the, Standard/Military time converter. For example if you want to know how much time has elapsed between 4.15 pm and 11.20 am, you simply convert the values to military time. Then you would enter the values into the main calculator (e.g. 16 hours 15 minutes) and subtract 11 hours 20 minutes from that.
  6. To convert say a large number of seconds into appropriate days, hours, minutes and (remaining) seconds, simply enter the large number in the 'seconds' column of the main calculator and 'add' nothing to it. Press 'calculate' and you have your answer.
  7. You can enter new time values (by replacing the old ones) in each textbox even without pressing the 'Clear' button. This is useful if you only want to change a part of the calculation and not all of it. The Reset button puts everything back to a state as if the program was just started.
  8. Your settings under Options are saved automatically and will remain the same even after quitting the program.
  9. There are tooltips (little yellow boxes with text explanations) to help you that appear whenever you leave your mouse pointer on virtually any part of the program for two seconds.
  10. The program is equipped with error handling in case of faulty or accidental input of characters in places you should enter numbers. Characters register as '0' (not counted) by default.
  11. Negative time units are not accepted and you will receive error messages accordingly on how to fix the problem.
  12. You can return to the M-Azlan Software website automatically by selecting Help>Visit Website if you want to check for updates, purchase another copy/version of the program or view the online and updated version of this help documentation.
  13. Send us feedback automatically from Help>About by clicking the e-mail address once. Your default e-mail program will start with the subject and address ready for you.
  14. Click the System Information button in the Help>About box to get detailed information about your operating system.

Troubleshooting

Why am I being asked for some DLL files?

If you face problems running the program in that you are asked for certain DLL files, this means you probably don't have the Visual Basic Run-time files installed in your computer. Windows 98 SE and above usually come preloaded with them. Either of the methods below should solve this problem.

  1. Use the setup installation package from the website instead of just the EXE file.
  2. Install the VB run-time files separately.

*Be sure to have created a System Restore point for your computer beforehand.

Why do I get a 'not suitable for running MS-DOS application' uninstall error?

This problem happens when the command.com file that the uninstaller runs to uninstall itself is not compatible with the current operating system. This might happen on some machines where Windows XP was installed over Windows 98 (one of the Win98 command.com files might not have been removed). Just close the error dialog box and delete the program directory manually if it bothers you.
